This year was full of "firsts".
My parents, along with my oldest sister and I, moved the summer before my 6th grade year, from Klamath Falls to Salem, Oregon. It was my first move (that I remember). We were the first ones to live in our brand new house.
Sixth Grade brought me my first male teacher, Mr. Benson. It also brought my first case of Chicken Pox. It wasn't really a bad case, but I remember staying home from school for a few days.
I received my first 10-speed bike that my dad bought from a garage sale. I didn't mind - I liked it and rode it to school almost every day.
I remember taking a lot of different "assessment" tests when I moved to this school. It was my first time having different teachers for different subjects (based on your skill level). I had Mrs. Williams for Math and another teacher for English, then Mr. Benson for Science. I was also placed in the TAG (Talented and Gifted) program. I remember feeling a little intimidated by the group of students I was with and not feeling quite as smart as them. We had a few "special" projects where the TAG students from my school were bused to another school to join with other students to work on projects. I don't know how many times a year we did this. I remember it was fun and challenging, but a little intimidating at first.
This was also my first year playing in the band. I played the flute (mostly because my older sister did and we already had a flute at home). We had practice before school. I eventually became "first chair".
