Seventh grade was my first year at Waldo Middle School. It was also my first year riding a bus to and from school. I remember many cold morning waiting for the school bus with the neighborhood kids. There was only 7th and 8th graders at Waldo. I also got contacts before this year - so that was exciting!
My homeroom teacher was Mr. Luke. I recorded my schedule for my first and second semesters:
First semester:
Block(English and Social Studies): Mr Luke
PE: Bush
Lit 1: Mr. Stempek
Pre-Algebra: Mrs. Garza
Foreign Language Sampler (Spanish and French): Mrs. Garza
Computer Lit: Mr. Weddle
Second Semester:
Life Science: Mr. Weir
PE: Mrs. Bush
Pre-Algebra: Mrs. Garza
Home Ec: Brownlee
Mixed Chorus: Mr. Bulls
Block: Mr. Luke
I got a 4.0 GPA both semesters. I remember being a little afraid / intimidated of Mrs. Garza. I still remember the fun little program we learned to write/run in the Computer lit class. I ended up deciding to take French after the foreign language sampler class. (I had 3 older brothers that spoke French).
I remember enjoying choir and feeling challenged in developing that talent.
Some of the new friends that I made this year are: Leslie Parker, Autumn Armstrong, Linnea Morales, Kelly Healy and Bart Allison.
My sister started dating a guy named Bryce Allison. Bryce had a younger brother, Bart, that was a year older than me. I actually babysat his two little sisters a few times over the summer. I kind of developed a crush on Bart. I guess the feelings were mutually, because my sister and his brother were behind us "hooking up". I remember they took us on a "double date" with them to see Home Alone 2 at the theaters. This was around Christmas time.
Soon after this "date" I was standing by my locker and Bart asked me, "Do you want to go out with me?" I said, "Yes" - and we started "going out". My mom wasn't too keen on this, since I wasn't supposed to date until I was 16, but this was just "going out" - not that same thing as "dating" :).
We didn't really do much, but we did hold hands in the halls and he'd walk me to class. We also wrote lots of notes to each other. I saved these notes for a long time - at least up until High School. We did go to a few school dances together. He was my official "first kiss". Our first kiss was after the last song at a school dance. I think I learned that his friends bet him that he wouldn't kiss me that night.
I rode my bike to the elementary school and we met up a few times to "hang out" and play basketball outside or just talk. We talked on the phone a lot. I remember that my mom and/or dad would sometimes pick up the phone and tell me that is was "time to get off". I truly felt that he was my "true love". I was a lovesick little girl! I remember he made me a "mix tape" of "our songs" one time. I listened to those songs ALOT!
I don't remember exactly when and or how we broke up, but I'm pretty sure it was Bart that broke it off. I think it was when he moved up to High School (and I was in 8th grade) that things ended. Oh the tender memories of first love!
